PolyFloor - Polystyrene Floor Insulation Boards

Detailed Product Overview

Important: POLYFLOOR Insulation Boards must be installed before casting the concrete slab. It is not a retrofit solution and must be planned during the design phase to ensure full compliance and performance.

POLYFLOOR is a high-performance expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation board, designed for installation beneath concrete surface beds

It meets the minimum thermal R-value of 1.00 required by SANS 10400 Part XA, ensuring your project complies with national energy efficiency standards.

When underfloor heating is used, insulating beneath the slab is a building code requirement

POLYFLOOR prevents valuable heat from escaping into the ground, maximising efficiency and reducing energy costs. It also prevents the cold ground form cooling the floor slab in cold winter months.

It also enhances everyday comfort by adding underfoot warmth and year-round thermal luxury.

Made from high and extra-high-density EPS, POLYFLOOR offers excellent compressive strength, making it suitable for load-bearing floor systems.

It is EPSASA approved, fully SANS 10400-XA compliant, and a proven insulation choice for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Key Product Benefits

  • Meets the minimum R-value of 1.00 as required by SANS 10400-XA for surface bed insulation

  • Mandatory when installing underfloor heating systems in line with building code

  • Improves energy efficiency and reduces heating costs

  • Adds underfoot thermal comfort and year-round luxury

  • Manufactured from high and extra-high-density EPS for superior compressive strength

  • Not a retrofit solution – must be installed before casting the concrete slab

  • EPSASA approved and compliant with South African building standards

  • Quick and simple to install during the construction phase

  • Proven solution for residential, commercial, and industrial floors

  • Nationally available and export-ready for international projects

For the cost, POLYFLOOR is one of the smartest ways to start any energy-efficient new build. You only get one chance to insulate your floor — before the concrete slab is cast. By meeting the required R-value of 1.00 and complying with SANS 10400-XA, POLYFLOOR ensures long-term energy savings, underfoot comfort, and full compliance from day one.

Thermal Insulation Values

Understanding thermal insulation values is essential when designing and specifying building insulation.

POLYFLOOR expanded polystyrene insulation boards have a K-value of 0.035 W/m·K, providing excellent thermal resistance to reduce heat transfer through roof slabs.

Thermal R-values are calculated by dividing the thickness of the material (in meters) by its K-value, so by adjusting thickness, you can achieve the required thermal performance for your project.

Below are typical POLYFLOOR Thermal R-values by thickness:

30mm — 0.857

35mm — 1.000

40mm — 1.143

50mm — 1.429

60mm — 1.714

70mm — 2.000

80mm — 2.286

90mm — 2.571

100mm — 2.857

110mm — 3.143

120mm — 3.429

150mm — 4.286

The difference in floor insulation is easy to feel underfoot — insulated floors provide a noticeably warmer, more comfortable surface compared to uninsulated floors, which can feel cold and drafty. This simple touch point greatly enhances the overall comfort of any building.

Generally POLYFLOOR and POLYWALL Insulation are ordered at the same time to avoid delays in constructions.
