PolyRoof - Polystyrene Concrete Roof Insulation Boards

Detailed Product Overview

Insulate and protect your flat roof with POLYROOF Insulation Boards, made from high-density or extra-high-density expanded polystyrene (EPS)

POLYROOF Insulation Boards provide superior thermal performance to help you meet the roof insulation requirements set out in SANS 10400, Part XA, ensuring energy-efficient, comfortable, and code-compliant buildings.

Installed above the waterproofing membrane and topped with a bidim filter fabric and stone ballast, this inverted roof system shields the waterproofing membrane from UV, heat, and damage—extending its lifespan and reducing maintenance costs.

POLYROOF offers exceptional thermal insulation, is more cost-effective than XPS, and helps stabilise indoor temperatures year-round.

SANS 10400-XA compliant and EPSASA approved, these boards are lightweight, moisture-resistant, and built for long-term performance in residential and commercial buildings.

POLYROOF Insulation Boards are trusted by architects, engineers, and waterproofing companies for their superior durability, thermal performance, and cost-effectiveness in inverted roof insulation systems.

They are a very compitively priced against extruded polystyrene (XPS) and rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam options.

Ideal For:

• Inverted roof insulation systems
• Flat concrete roof slabs
• Protection of waterproofing membranes
• Use with bidim filter fabric and stone ballast
• Cost-effective alternative to XPS
• Residential, commercial, and industrial buildings

Thermal Insulation Values

Understanding thermal insulation values is essential when designing and specifying building insulation.

POLYROOF expanded polystyrene insulation boards have a K-value of 0.035 W/m·K, providing excellent thermal resistance to reduce heat transfer through roof slabs.

Thermal R-values are calculated by dividing the thickness of the material (in meters) by its K-value, so by adjusting thickness, you can achieve the required thermal performance for your project.

Below are typical POLYROOF Thermal R-values by thickness:

30mm — 0.857

35mm — 1.000

40mm — 1.143

50mm — 1.429

60mm — 1.714

70mm — 2.000

80mm — 2.286

90mm — 2.571

100mm — 2.857

110mm — 3.143

120mm — 3.429

150mm — 4.286

Real-World Application Example

To meet strict energy efficiency standards, 125mm thick high-density POLYROOF insulation boards were installed on the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) Roof Extension project. This provided a thermal R-value of 3.570, exceeding the minimum requirement set out by SANS 10400, Part XA.

This installation showcases how POLYROOF can be specified with confidence on high-profile commercial developments, delivering both compliance and long-term performance.
